Staycation with Mercure Hyderabad KCP

    4

In the beginning of this month, we spent a day at Mercure Hyderabad KCP for a little R&R! It couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time. I was already waiting for a much needed break from routine, the boy’s birthday was also around the corner, and Mercure Hyderabad KCP had a Telangana Food Festival going on. All in all, it was a good time to explore a new property and experience what it had to offer.

Mercure is located in Khairtabad, right in the heart of the city. So if you are someone coming from out of town and need a place to stay in the city that is well connected to all the main attractions of the city, and the happening places, then this is the place to be!

    My Rooms

One of the most exciting things about Mercure Hyderabad KCP is their concept of “My Rooms”. They have 3 rooms that are decorated end-to-end on a particular theme. Now the themes are fun, royal and whacky all at once! The theme is picked by their employees themselves, then they are given a budget within which they need to buy decor items and anything else that is required to add some oomph to the room based on the theme. The Nizam’s Dabar, Nature room, and the Charlie Chaplin comedy room are the ones present here. Each room has fun little trinkets that are suited for that particular room and are super fun to stay in!

First up was a lunch buffet at their restaurant Cayenne. It has your regular spread of North-India, South-Indian, Chinese and a few live counters. BUT, the dessert section was where they outdid themselves. Cheesecakes, tarts, macarons, and then a whole exclusive line of desserts with just mango as their main ingredient. Needless to say, we polished our plates good! Hi-tea consisted of yummy filter coffee, banana bread, cookies and croissants. Again, did not disappoint.

The IQ lounge bar, has a good selection of drinks for those interested, but the ambience was slightly disappointing. It’s a dark and gloomy place, and after a while it just starts to feel uncomfortable. I’m not really a fan of sitting in the dark and drinking. I like places to open and airy. But the staff is extremely cooperative and service quite prompt.

Dinner was again at Cayenne, and this time we got to sample all the delicious dishes from their on going Telangana Food Festival. All you non-veggies out there, it’s a treat for you guys!

There was also an endless supply of chocolates and macaroons in our room, for snacking!

The hotel does boast of some great views of the newly constructed metro line, and the Hussain sagar lake farther into the distance. There’s something comforting about sitting next to your 10th floor window, and watching the lights flicker in the city down below, and the trains slowly snaking their way through the city in the darkness.

They have a gym on the top floor which opens to views of the lake giving it a very open and spacious feel. The owners of the hotel are apparently huge believers in Lord Buddha, which is why you’ll see a different Buddha painting on every corner of the hotel.

It’s a simple, neatly done place, with a similar layout on each floor. A few arts-y pieces here and there, and some great views from each window!

Overall, we had a lovely stay! The rooms were comfortable, the food was great and the staff was really kind. This is more of a hotel that you stay in when you are coming in from a different city. The kind where you roam around all day, and have a more than comfortable place to come back to and sleep! As for a staycation there’s not too much to do after Day1. So if a one night getaway is what you are looking for, then this is certainly an option!
