Storm Team Four is tracking a storm system that could bring 1 to 3 inches of snow to the region this weekend.With cold air firmly in place, and a storm forming over the Southwest, we have a good chance of snow this weekend. It’s expected to arrive Saturday in mid to late afternoon and is likely to continue overnight into Sunday, possibly accumulating in the range of 1-3 inches in the D.C. region and slightly more to the south. Winter Weather Forecast: Double the Average Snow in DMV With temperatures close to freezing, the entire region will likely see some snow.Winter storm watches have been issued for areas south of the metro area, including portions of central Virginia, the Virginia Piedmont and extreme southern Maryland. Shutdown Resources: Here’s How to Get Help in the DC Area The chance of getting an accumulating snow remain high — 80 percent — but the odds of getting 4 inches or more this weekend have dropped slightly, to about 30-40 percent. However, since we’re still a few days out, it’s likely there will be more changes to the forecast. Stay aware of updates over the next few days.If you’re leaving town for the weekend, head for the mountains, as this may be one of the better weekends for skiing.As for Friday, it’s all about the wind and the cold. Although the day will be sunny, strong northwest winds will be around 10-20 mph, with wind chills in the teens in the morning. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 30s, but wind chills will remain in the low to mid 20s. Bundle up!By Saturday morning, clouds will begin to build, and snow is expected around noon.
